Here is McDonalds description of their Premium Southwest Salad.

Mix it up with a toss of premium greens made fresh daily and three cups of veggies like fire-roasted corn, savory black beans, oven roasted tomatoes and poblano peppers gets sprinkled with cheddar and jack cheeses, chili-lime tortilla strips and a fresh-sliced lime wedge. Served with Newman’s Own Southwest Dressing.

We love the Southwest salad. It’s a quick and easy way to get some healthy food in your stomach. It has all the leafy greens to keep you health. That’s nice.

Healthy right!? Healthier compared to the rest of the fast food products.

I was poking around the website the other day and saw that the ingredients of the salad were pretty interesting.

The salad has all the Cilantro Lime Glaze in it with the following ingredients.

CILANTRO LIME GLAZE
Ingredients: Water, Corn Syrup Solids, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Sugar, Distilled Vinegar, Olive Oil, Soybean Oil, Freeze-Dried Orange Juice Concentrate, Cilantro, Salt, Freeze-Dried Lime Juice Concentrate, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Benzoate and Potassium Sorbate (Preservatives), Garlic Powder, Propylene Glycol Alginate, Spice, Onion Powder, Citric Acid.

The ones highlighted are just a few of the chemicals in the salad.

Yikes.

  1. Unfortunately, those chemicals are in there for most likely for shelve life of the glaze and to guard against spoilage. (Preservatives) Not sure if the xanthan gum would be a problem to you.
Would be the Artisan grilled chicken sandwich with a side salad, be a better choice? toss the bun, or could you order it without the bun?
Also would they make the Artisan salad without the cilantro lime glaze?

    • Thank you for the comment. Unfortunately we live in a society where chemicals in food is a way of life. I am not a professional either but it makes you question what you are eating. I will look into the artisan grilled chicken sandwich.
